Yankees are interested in Mickey Keller

Yankees show interest in Pirates’ right hand Mitch KellerNoah Hiles of the Pittsburgh Post. They are one of several clubs the 29-year-old Righy ran for, who signed for three years outside of the season. In recent weeks, both the Metropolis and the Cubs have been closely linked to Keller. Hiles added that Cubs is currently looking at Keller’s backup options more in the spin search, while Metropolitan is “very”.

Keller’s interest is only natural for the Yankees, who will be outstanding players starting the pitching market in the next two weeks. GM Brian Cashman recently showed that pitching will be his top priority this summer. New York is lost Gerrit Cole Before the season begins, Tommy John’s surgery even begins. Clarke Schmidt I met the same fate earlier this month. Rookie of the Year Louis Gill Due to Laura’s pressure, there are still no pitches this season. left handed Ryan Yarbrough Due to the tilted strain, it has also been exhausted for nearly a month.

Currently, Yankees have The biggest explosion,,,,, Carlos Rodon,,,,, Marcus Stroman And the new show Will Warren and Cam Schlittler In rotation. Hopefully Gil is already in a minor league rehabilitation mission and can strengthen the group as soon as possible. In theory, Yablu shouldn’t be far behind, but he hasn’t begun to recover. Despite no setbacks, no return to the form before injury – neither of these are guaranteed.

Keller played 20 games for Pittsburgh and had a 3.48 ERA. His opponents account for 18.7% and have a career-low walking rate of 5.5%. Keller was in a particularly strong position lately, entering the sixth inning or after 13 straight games and compiling 3.04 ERAs in 80 innings at the time. Ten of these emerged were the beginning of quality. Dating back to 2022, Keller tied for the seventh inning (112) and the eleventh inning (650 1/3) in all Major League Baseball.

It makes sense to bring Keller to this season and to provide some future stability. Stroman is a free agent at the end of the season. Neither Warren nor Schlittler fixed themselves as long-term spin cogs. Cole’s recovery may continue until next year’s open house. Given his surgery time, Schmidt won’t be back to the mound until at least late next year, and may not be back until 2027.

Keller will add durability to the group and rotate very strongly in the mid-season next season. It will not necessarily assume that all parties are healthy, but around June, the Yankees do have the chance to deploy rotations including Cole, Fried, Rodon, Keller and Gil on the depth chart as Warren and Warren and Warren and Schlittler. This depth will be listed as the best in baseball.

There are other factors to consider. Keller is midway through the second season of a five-year, $77mm contract. He will be 15mm in 2025 and will earn 16.5mm, 18mm and 20mm in the next three seasons. That’s a great value for Keller’s caliber’s transit division – especially if you think there’s still some unexplored upside for previous second-round picks and top prospects – but the Yankees are well out of the way due to their luxury tax status.

At the time of writing, Keller’s salary is about 5.89mm, not paid yet. Add to his future salary, and he still owes about 60.39 mm for the next three seasons. The Yankees have an annual value of about 17.8mm, taxing the Yankees at 110% clips – assuming they are still at the highest level of forward luxury fines, this seems like a good option.

Losterresource projected Yankees with a luxury obligation of about 187mm in 2026 Jazz Chisholm Jr.,,,,, Anthony Volpe,,,,, Fernando CruzSchmidt and Jill. Keller will add another 17.8mm to that number, while the Yankees will get help in the market this winter at third base, midfielder and bullpen (depending on their trade deadline activity of course). Each Cody Bellinger,,,,, Trent Grisham,,,,, Devin Williams and Luke Weaver It was a free agent a few months later. Even if the Yankees can only fall into the third-level penalty, they will still impose a 90% tax on Keller’s remaining years.

If the Pirates do move Keller, it’s probably the most inspiring of the MLB ready player. Pittsburgh has attracted a young weapon (just added another one, Seth Hernandezranked sixth in the 2025 draft), but has not achieved much success in developing young batsmen. This is not to say they have no interest in further storing Young pitches, but their goal in the next few weeks is certainly to add at least some young batsmen to help strengthen the stagnant offense, ranking highest in scoring, home runs and beat percentage runs.
