Ukrainian lucky loser Vitaliy Sachko notched the biggest win of his career at the Mosel Open on Wednesday, defeating world No. 13 Alexander Bublik 7-5, 3-6, 7-5 to reach his first ATP Tour quarterfinals.
The 28-year-old faced no break point in the third set and seized his chance in the 12th game of the decider to claim victory after two hours and nine minutes in Metz, according to Infosys ATP Statistics. With his victory, he ended Bublik’s hopes of finishing the year in the top ten.
Sachko became the first Ukrainian to reach the quarter-finals of a tournament since Sergey Stakhovsky in Marseille in 2019, rising 36 spots to No. 186 in the PIF ATP Live Rankings.
In other matches, Learner Tien defeated Tunisian lucky loser Moez Echargui 7-6(3), 6-3 to advance to his sixth tour quarter-final of the season.
#NextGenATP American is having a great year on Tour. The 19-year-old reached his first ATP Tour final in Beijing last month and has reached the fourth round of ATP Masters 1000 events in Toronto and Shanghai. Tien is currently ranked 37th in the PIF ATP Live Rankings and will next face either Matteo Berrettini or Aleksandar Vukic.
Alexander Blockx was unable to follow his fellow #NextGenATP stars into the quarterfinals in Metz. French qualifier Clement Tabourg saved a match point in the second set by winning 6-7(4), 7-6(6), 7-6(6). Blockx leverages next-generation accelerator to gain access to ATP 250 spots as part of new opportunities for players 20 and under. Tabor will face Sachiko in the quarterfinals.
Daniel Altmaier also advanced when Hugo Gaston was forced to withdraw at the end of the second set. Gaston won the first set 6-4, and Altmaier responded with a 6-0. The German faced Lorenzo Sonego in the quarterfinals.
French lucky loser Kyrian Jacquet advanced to his first ATP Tour quarter-finals with a 6-0, 6-2 victory over Dan Added. He will next play Cameron Norrie.
