Wrexham Open: Mimi Xu advances to quarter-finals

Wales’ Mimi Xu defeated Lithuania’s Andrei Lukosiut in straight sets to advance to the quarter-finals of the Wrexham Open.

Xu Bing won her first service game, and although Lukosit’s strong performance allowed her to control the game for five consecutive games, Xu won the game 7-5 in the next six games.

The 18-year-old from Swansea was broken early in the second set but fought back to seal a 7-5 victory and seal her place in the next round.

Xu will play doubles with fellow Briton Ella McDonald against third seeds Naima Karamoko and Jessica Ponchette on Thursday afternoon.

McDonald, 20, defeated Ivana Sebestova in straight sets, 6-3, 7-5, to advance to singles.
