Sunday’s Nitto ATP Finals championship match between Jannik Sinner and Carlos Alcaraz became the most watched tennis broadcast in Italian television history.

More than 6.7 million viewers across platforms watched Sinner defeat Alcaraz 7-6(4), 7-5 to retain his title in Turin, surpassing the national record of 6.6 million viewers set by Sinner in his final showdown with Novak Djokovic in the 2023 season finale.

The new benchmark not only underlines Sinner’s status as a national sporting icon, but also highlights Italy’s soaring ratings for tennis, helped by stars such as Lorenzo Musetti, Flavio Coboli and Luciano Dadri.

Sunday’s final is the latest installment in a fast-moving rivalry between Alcaraz and Sinner, the top two players in the PIF ATP Rankings. This is their sixth meeting in 2025, with all meetings reaching finals, including the past three majors.

Sinner extended his indoor winning streak to 31 games by trailing Alcaraz 6-10 in the Lexus ATP Head2Head Series, according to the Infosys ATP Win/Loss Index. His last defeat in this context was Djokovic – the most watched tennis broadcast in Italian television history.
