Scheffler's history shoot: 5 wild facts about the Royal Bank of Canada's legacy and its lasting port curse

Rory McIlroy’s master victory undoubtedly brought golf disease to everyone, and his career Grand Slam won the championship of our favorites for the sport.

Don't worry, while we're going to see action in Augusta National, some of the most famous events on the PGA Tour have resumed for a year.

This week is the RBC Legacy held at Harbour Town Golf Links in the 15th round of the 2025 PGA Tour season.

South Carolina’s iconic 71 took a strategic test with rewards taking precedence over power. It first aired in 1969 and became a beloved site on the calendar and a follow-up to the Masters’ chaos.

Scottie Scheffler won his 2024 green jacket at RBC Heritage the following week, but the absence of Rory McIlroy means we won't see a repeat of the feat.

Five things you might not know about Southern events as Fields chases the prizes for coveted coats again…

Of course it's a backlash

Harbour Town is one of the shorter courses on the PGA Tour schedule, but that doesn't mean it's easy…

The narrow fairway, sharp dog legs and intimidating trees force players to think carefully about every shot and excessive attacks usually bite.

Power players and corner cutters simply can’t beat the course – creativity and course management prevail in the RBC legacy.

In an era when power is often dominated, the course is a refreshing back period that benefits accuracy and skill.

The tartan plaid jacket is iconic

The champion of RBC Heritage was awarded the tartan plaid jacket.

The tradition nodded to the Scottish link in the region, thus inspiring the legacy through a coat presentation ceremony, which is the perfect way to end.

The Jacket Speech contradicts the Port Town Lighthouse and is the truly picturesque ending of this week.

Arnold Palmer starts the event with style

The RBC legacy debuted in 1969 with the first champion in addition to Arnold Palmer.

Palmer's victory ended a 14-month championship drought and immediately recognized the event, which has become a staple of the PGA Tour year.

His victory connects Pete Dye’s Harbor Town Golf to the map, making it a world-class golf course.

Placing a surface won't give you many goals

Port Town received a precise reward, and the rule is especially applicable to shooting.

The green distance at the average level of the venue is over 300 square meters, making it the smallest in the PGA Tour. There is little room for error, and the lack of incorrect locations causes players to face tight lies, pot cover and escape areas with a difficult up and down.

Contenders will just have to dial with irons and get crafty around the green, one of the reasons why the rankings tend to be biased towards the players they control.

No player ever defends their RBC legacy championship

Even avid golf fans are surprising fact: No player has ever defended their RBC legacy title.

In 2024, Scheffler added his name to the winners’ list, collecting the champions with tremendous accuracy and clinical execution. It was his fourth in the last five games of the Masters victory, a dominance that he had never seen in years.

With McIlroy not on the venue, the world returns for the first time in 2025, with the mission of breaking the most enduring curse of the RCMP legacy.
