ESPN’s Jeff Passan reported that royals are calling out one of baseball’s highest hit prospects. Jac Caglianone. While he only had 0.690 OPS in 2024’s 126 set appearances at High-A Ball, Caglianone combined to 225 PA at the .323/.391/.600 slash at the Double-A and Triple-A levels this year.
Caglianone just played his 12th three-pointer today, so as dominant like the 22-year-old Slugger, arguably the royals were especially aggressive when the royals brought him to the Grand Slam early in the career. That said, as MLBTR’s Steve Adams pointed out a few days ago, KC may feel a little motivated due to the small amount the team gets from the roster, especially in the outfield.
The 1-0 loss to the Tigers today marks the Royals’ sixth shutdown loss this season. Kansas City tied with the Buccaneers for the second highest run total (194) with only the bad Rockies. As the royals rank or approach the bottom of the league in several other major offensive categories, some contribution must be given, especially as the team’s strong rotation almost single-handedly retains KC in the AL Central game.
When he made his debut with Arkansas’ double A NW Arkansas in late April, he made his debut with the seeds of Caglianone’s quick promotion. During college, Caglianone was a star first baseman and pitcher, both gave up pitching and focused on hitting the professionals, and he has regularly received regular doses of the right field work (although not exclusive position changes) over the past five weeks of minor league operations.

Even if the Royals make the playoffs in 2024, their entire outfield is a major weakness link, and Kansas City’s attempt to upgrade the position in the offseason hasn’t really been eliminated. Caglianone’s promotion is the latest step in the major promotion you’ve seen MJ Melendez Select triple A in April and Hunter Renfroe Released earlier this week.
The left-handed hit Caglianone’s number will be separated between the right field, first base and possibly sometimes DH. Drew Waters and Kyle Isbel Will continue to be in the midfield, and Mark Kaha,,,,, Michael Messiand Jonathan India Messi/India may also share the responsibilities on the left, while Messi/India is also playing at second base, and Kanha will likely spell Caglianone against Southpaws in the correct field. Broadly speaking, manager Matt Quatraro can be creative with his roster Bobby Witt Jr. and Michael Garcia Being the only regular with above average, even Witt’s 121 WRC+ is a considerable step forward from his 2024 MVP runner-up season.
This has put Caglianone in his first MLB action as KC fans (if any) feel that Caglianone has exaggerated the promotion. Caglianone’s minor league numbers show that he’s ready to play. Major League Baseball Pipeline ranked him 22nd in baseball before the season, with ESPN finishing his 29th, while athletic Keith Law (60th) and Baseball America (63rd) also made them even deeper. Experts agree that Kagriaxone is a talented batsman with a huge strength and export numbers, but the only question is whether there are too many swings and lapses in his game to handle major league pitching. Kagriaxone has performed well in releasing considerable strikeouts among minors with the chasing rate still unabashedly this year.
Because he is on the top 100 list, Caglianone is eligible to be a Prospect Prosport facilitator. This means that if he enters the top two in the Rookie of the Year vote, he will receive a full year of service despite not being called until June. Caglianone’s summoning time means that if he stays in the professional for the rest of the rest of 2025, he will earn super two statuses and receive additional arbitration qualifications on the go.
