Ricky Rubio posts gratitude, but a hidden message a year later

Ricky Rubio played the NBA for the last time as a member of the Cavaliers in the 2022-23 season. Later in the year, he finally announced his suffering in depression and was not suitable for competing at the highest level.

He has returned to social media with loving messages and some confusing phrases this past Thursday. He wrote: “…I spent a year thinking about my career and life this year and I realized that if I got to where I am today it was not because of the assists I received, but because of the assists I received.”

The experienced point guard averaged 5.2 points, 2.1 rebounds and 3.5 assists in his final season in Cleveland, then added: “It’s not goodbye, and it’s thankful to everyone who helped me.”

Within a few hours, the post had reached nearly half a million impressions, with many fans and players sending him words of encouragement. @jacksonlloydnba commented: “Ricky, your memories.

The 34-year-old has spent 12 seasons with the Timberwolves, Jazz, Suns and Cavaliers, and he announced his NBA pension. He accepted his journey “end” after the Cleveland franchise agreed to purchase it for a $6.1 million contract.

The Spanish player explained that he did not report to the camp in October because “July 30 was one of the toughest nights of my life.”

He then wrote: “One day, when the time is right, I would love to share my full experience with you so that I can help others experience similar situations. Until then, I hope to maintain respect for my family and myself in terms of my mental health.”
