Red Wings sweep season series, 4-3 win over Kraken – Hockey Writer – Detroit Red Wings

The Seattle Kraken host the Detroit Red Wings on Saturday, December 6th. This is the second meeting between the two teams this season. The first time was on November 18, which the Red Wings won 4-2. The Red Wings once again defeated the Kraken 4-3 to sweep the season series.

Five minutes into the first quarter, Berkeley Carton burst into the penalty area and grabbed Elmer Soderblom. With seconds left, Axel Sandin-Pelica took the puck to the blue line. He passed the ball to Nate Danielson in the middle of the left scrimmage spot. He passed the puck across the ice to Emmett Finney in the opposing circle. He shot and opened the scoring.

In the 16th minute, Matty Beniers stole the ball in the Red Wings penalty area. He passed the ball to Jordan Eberle in the neutral zone, who began the scoring drive. Brandon Montour followed and Eberle passed to him. His shot hit the crossbar to tie the game.

Five minutes into the second period, Simon Edwinson had a shot on goal but Joey Daccord made the initial save. Andrew Copp skated to the boards and tried his best to shoot behind him. It was unclear at first if the puck was in the net, so play continued. The game is under review at the next stoppage. After reviewing the video, it was determined that the puck did indeed cross the goal line. Detroit regained the lead.

A minute and a half later, Tye Kartye took control of the puck in the Kraken zone. He passed the ball to Vince Dunn at the blue line. He crossed the ice and passed the puck to his defensive partner Adam Larson on the blue line. He immediately fired a shot through traffic for the Kraken’s second goal.

Six minutes later, Larsson created another chance at the blue line. This time, Chandler Stephenson hit a tip-in to give Seattle its first lead of the night.

The lead was erased with seconds remaining. On a failed Kraken play, JT Compher picked up the loose puck and sent it into the neutral zone. James van Riemsdyk grabbed the rebound. He scored again for Detroit by sliding directly toward the goal with no one guarding him. Both teams ended the second period with three goals.

Two and a half minutes later, the Kraken tried again and failed. Alex DeBrincat picked up the loose puck and skated it through the neutral zone. He carried the numbers into the Red Wings’ end zone and passed the ball to Patrick Kane. He lifted the puck over Daccord to win the game for Detroit.

Next step

The two teams will resume play on Monday, December 8. The Kraken will stay at home to face the Minnesota Wild. The Red Wings will head north to face the Vancouver Canucks.
