Ron McLean: “One of the things you and Kyle talked about on the latest episode of 32 Thoughts: The Podcast is that if players aren’t happy with ice time, they don’t have to wait forever. So you can listen to the podcast to hear that story. (Andrei) Svechnikov wasn’t a kid, but he wasn’t happy.
NHL injuries: Ducks, Flames, Wings, Panthers, Preds, Devils, Rangers, Sens, Lightning, Leafs and Canucks
Friedman: “Yeah, earlier in the season. So Andrei Svechnikov, great player, great player for the Carolina Hurricanes. If you’re a fan of this team, or you’re watching the league as a whole, you know he’s been there through the first eight games. His usage is down. He’s on the fourth line. He had one game where he had a poor performance, less than 12 minutes, and he was unhappy.
And he, I understand, what else, I haven’t talked to him directly, but I know that’s the inference to the Carolina Hurricanes that if they want to trade him, he’s not going to be upset about it. He was open to the idea.
Now I think the word has gotten out and that’s what I heard today. I think word has gotten out about it. I’ve heard some teams call the Hurricanes and they’re told, you know, we still think this is a cornerstone player and it’s not what we want to do, but if you’re going to ask us, you’re going to have to make a huge offer.
Things have calmed down now, Ron. He’s back on the front line. He’s playing with Aho and Jarvis, who doesn’t want to play with Aho and Jarvis, and his playing time is back and he’s scored 12 points in the last 13 games. So now things have calmed down and his usage is back to where it was before. I think the only thing you see here is, hey, if it goes back to where it was before, then that’s something we’re going to have to keep an eye on.
NHL Rumors: Brad Lambert cleared by Winnipeg Jets to find trade partner
I mean, when I heard the news today, I was blown away. I mean, who wouldn’t be interested?
McClain: “Well, Rod Brind’Amour is great. They’ve got (Mikko) Lanternen. They’ve got (Martin) Necas. They’ve survived losing both. So they have that ability in Carolina.
