3 Bold Carolina Hurricane Forecasts 2025-26 Season – Hockey Writer – Carolina Hurricanes

Summer dog days are constantly delaying; however, at least 47 days are left at the start of the 2025-26 season. Regarding the Carolina Hurricane, the upcoming season, expectations are high. They are seen as one of the teams that won the Mets division and achieved a major victory in the playoffs. Under Rod Brind’Amour, they won the first round for seven consecutive seasons and reached the Eastern Conference finals three times (two of the last three games). Although predictions become familiar, sometimes bold predictions are required. That is, in 2025-26, what might three of these hurricanes be?

Can we go boldly?

3. Shayne Gostisbehere breaks the defense’s total number of seasons (self-relocated)

Defensive Shayne Gostisbehere has a chance to reset the record after 45 points in the Hurricanes’ first season with the Hurricanes in 2024-25. The record in question is the most points a defensive player has in a season. It was set by Brent Burns (61) in the 2022-23 season. Burns broke the record for the last season in 2021-22 (51). Gostisbehere has the best chance of breaking the record incumbent Hurricane Defender. However, he needs to avoid injury. He only played 70 games last season, some due to playoff breaks and some due to injuries. If Gostisbehere stays healthy, he has the potential to win the record in 2025-26.

Last season, Gostisbehere scored 7 goals and 38 assists. If he can score about 13 goals, he has a chance to break the record. Burns has scored 18 goals and 43 assists in 61 seasons in several seasons. If he keeps 13 goals, Gostisbehere will have to collect 49 assists to reach 62 points to break the points record. If he manages 15, he will need at least 47. By adding eight goals and nine additional assists, Gostisbehere may knock on the door for a new franchise record, as the team moved to Raleigh in 1997. Can he do it? Compared to his 70 games in 2024-25, he is likely to add another 10 games. It’s a tough task, but giving Gostisbehere a second season, he’s healthy and he can rewrite records for the Hurricane.

2. Seth Jarvis totaled 80 points

Seth Jarvis has performed well in the 2024-25 season, which has allowed him to create a new career in assists (35) while his total score (67). He did this after missing seven games after recapturing last season. Jarvis looks like his pace may see him reaching at least 75 points. Entering the 2025-26 season, he can reach the 80-point plateau if he manages to stay healthy instead of missing the game. Although he only needs 13 points from 67 to 80, this is not possible.

Jarvis played 73 games last season, leading the Hurricanes (32) and short goals (5). In the 2023-24 season, he tore his shoulders and played more than 60 games. He scored 33 goals and 67 points. If he revolves around the same number of games at a 2024-25 scoring pace, there is no reason why he can’t go from 67 points to 80 points from one season to the next. Even if he hasn’t reached 70 points, Jarvis proves he can score as he pleases and runs to make him score more nights each week. If he can manage the shoulders and scoring pace, we can see Jarvis’ 80-point activity in 2025-26.

1. Hurricane wins first seed at Eastern Conference

The last one may be the hardest to achieve, but why make bold predictions without opportunities or claims? When it comes to the Eastern Conference, the consensus will be that it runs through the Florida Panthers. While this may be the case, don’t list hurricanes to make some noise in 2025-26. The Panthers took over almost the same team that won the Stanley Cup last summer, minus a few people going elsewhere. However, the Hurricanes did get better in the offseason. They added Nikolaj Ehlers and K’andre Miller in their first few days as free agents. Ehlers signed with the New York Rangers and Miller in the signing deal. The Hurricane also extended Logan Stankovin and Jackson Blake for the next eight seasons after the final year after the Hurricane expires next summer.

Additionally, Alexander Nikishin will earn his first full season in North America, hoping he will make progress after becoming a superstar in the Curtini Hockey League (KHL). Compared to the departures of Burns and Dmitry Orlov, the defense is younger, faster and more offensive. If Andrei Svechnikov can bring his game back to his 69-point game in 2021-22 and his ACL tear, it will be a boost to the Hurricane. They scored 99 points last season, ranking fourth in the Eastern Conference. The Washington Capitals ended with 111 points and won the Metropolitan Division.

This will boil down to the hurricane, seeing the immense contributions of Svechnikov, Ehlers, Jarvis and Sebastian Aho. Additionally, since the Department of Defense ranks in the top three in the league, just like they usually did in the Blindmer era, and the goalkeepers are brick walls, there may also be a chance to see the Hurricanes take the playoffs in the Eastern Conference. What makes the situation happen is if things become 90% suitable for them, and people on and off the lineup contribute every night. If so, we might have a 2025-26 season from the Hurricane.
