LeBron James prepares to create NBA history in 2025-26 years
Los Angeles Lakers star Lebron James will enter his 23rd NBA season when the 2025-26 car was launched in October. According to an NBA Communications X/Twitter account, James will surpass Vince Carter for most seasons in league history.
“Lakers forward Lebron James plans to start his 23rd NBA season on opening night,” NBA Communications announced Tuesday. “He will pass Vince Carter for most seasons in league history.”
Still performing at the elite level
If James’ upcoming season reflects his 22nd season, the Lakers can look forward to continuing production. While no longer playing on rims at the same frequency, the 39-year-old remains a top scorer, creative passer and effective out-of-ball cutter.
In the 2024-25 season, James averaged 24.4 points, 8.2 assists and 7.4 rebounds per game. He shot 51.3% from the field and 37.6% from outside the arc. His efficiency and versatility show that he can make his game more impacted even in his career.
Share the spotlight with Doncic
Luka Doncic has taken on many offensive burdens for the Lakers, but James remains a key part of the puzzle. In another game, the four-time NBA champions scored 25.4 points, 9.0 rebounds and 5.6 assists per game. He connected 48.9% of the field goal percentage and 35.7% of the 3-point shooting, further demonstrating his ability in different roles.
James’ consistent output provides balance for the Lakers built around Star Power. His presence provides Los Angeles with a secondary offensive engine and has an experienced leader on and off the court.
Chasing another milestone
James’s 23rd season will mark an unprecedented milestone in league history. No player has reached this longevity level, which makes the achievements about durability and preparation as skill.
Assuming he avoided a late retirement announcement, James will officially claim to have the only one he owned when he stepped on the record on opening night. His professional longevity has redefined expectations for NBA stars, and the next chapter will only add to his legacy.
For a player who has already broken scores, playoff appearances and game record records, the upcoming season offers another opportunity to solidify his place in basketball history.
