Ducks complete last-minute comeback to beat Mammoths 3-2 – Hockey Writer – Anaheim Ducks

The puck dropped in Anaheim on Monday night when the Utah Mammoths visited the Ducks. The Ducks are coming off a three-game road trip without winning any of them. The Mammoths had their ups and downs in the week leading up to the game, winning one and losing two, and their mom came to California with them. According to Jeff Marek, this will be the first game in NHL history to feature four Czech goalies. Lukas Dostal and Karel Vejmelka will be matched between wind instruments, supported by Petr Mrazek and Vitek Vanecek.
Issue 1
Just about four minutes into the game, Ducks forward Troy Terry received a minor penalty for a hook, while Mikhail Sergachev received the same amount of time for a hook. There were no goals scored in the four-on-four match.
Utah’s first power play of the game came when Beckett Senek took a tripping penalty midway through the first half, but they failed to convert. The Ducks’ Jackson LaCombe scored his first goal of the season in the final minutes on assists from Ryan Strome and Alex Killorn.
Seconds after celebrating the goal, a fight broke out between Ross Johnston and Liam O’Brien, with Johnston pushing his opponent to the ice. They were both given a five-minute penalty. At the end of the quarter, the Mammoths had only seven shots on goal compared to five for the Ducks, who led 1-0.
Second issue
Lawson Crouse was penalized for a hook early in the quarter, giving the Ducks their first power play opportunity of the night. They are not converted by human superiority. It was a very quiet period, with no additional penalties or goals occurring in nearly 14 minutes of play.

However, Dylan Guenther tied the game with less than two minutes remaining on assists from Nate Schmidt and John Marino. The Mammoth’s late answer would create an entirely different hockey game heading into the third quarter. They had seven shots on goal from midfield; the Ducks had nine.
Third quarter and overtime
The Mammoths took a 2-1 lead when Logan Cooley fired a timer past Dostal. Sergachev and Nick Schmaltz provided assistance. There were no penalties in the final period. Just when it seemed like the Ducks were losing hope, Terry scored on Chris Kreider and Carter Gauthier with four seconds left to send the game into overtime.
It didn’t take long for the Ducks to regroup and complete the comeback victory. At 1:50 of overtime, Killorn and Senek worked together to pass the puck to Oren Zellweger, who fired the puck into the net behind Vimelka. Despite the odds, the Ducks won 3-2 to start their six-game homestand.
The Mammoths will face the San Jose Sharks again tomorrow before heading home. The Ducks will face the Boston Bruins on Wednesday.
