In their third preseason, the New Jersey Devils faced New York Islanders in the Metropolitan Showdown at UBS Arena Friday night. This marks the second time this week the two teams face to face after Tuesday night’s Devils’ 6-2 victory.

Foreseeable, the Devils gave most of their starters a break, while the Islanders played veterans and prospects. Most notably, the Devils have Paul Cotter, Jonas Siegenthaler and Dougie Hamilton in the lineup, while the Islanders play Mathew Barzal, Bo Horvat and Matthew Schaefer. The result was a 4-2 Devil victory, defeating his opponent 27-25.

As planned, goalkeeper Jake Allen competed in the first half of the game, stopping 11 of 12 shots in 12 goals before Jakub Malek took over the second half. The Islanders were planning to do the same with Ilya Sorokin and Tristan Lennox, but Sorokin ended up staying networked for all three periods.

The Devils’ two-minute goal in the first stage started with Luke Glendening’s goal, assisted by Seamus Casey and Brian Halonen. They kept the lead 1-0 until the mid-stage of Stage 2, when Marc Gatcomb scored a game for the Islanders, making it a tie.

Tensions entered the third inning, but the Devil fought back, with the rally scoring two unresolved goals. Nathan Legare and Arseni Gritsyuk helped the Devils lead 3-1. The Islanders made a heroic effort on Anthony Duclair’s goal, but the Devil signed a trade with an empty Nets of Angus Crookshank for a 4-2 victory.

The Devil will return to a busy Sunday afternoon action, with half of the team facing the Washington capital and the rest playing Ottawa Senator. Meanwhile, Islanders will face the New York Rangers at home on Monday night.
