China’s Shanghai Juncheng defeated Karen Khachanov at the Rolex Hanghai Masters and won the biggest victory of his career on Saturday night. With his 7-6 (3), 6-3 win, Shang beat the top 10 opponents in the PIF ATP rankings and advanced to the third round with the ATP Masters 1000 for the first time.
According to Infosys ATP Stats, the 20-year-old #NextGenatp star said: “Today’s game against Karen is incredible. He’s a very solid top 10 player.” “I didn’t think too much about going to the game, just wanted to have a show for people. I didn’t start perfectly in the game, but I’ve been fighting and always focused, and I’m very happy whether I win or lose.
“I’m very happy to win. But overall, I’m happy with the performance.”
Zhou is the youngest of the three Chinese players, who entered the third round of Shanghai, with three examples starting in 2023.
During the opening ceremony, Kaka and Kachanov had two breaks. In the second set, Shang won a string of victories, earning the last three games 3-3 and defeating the final six points of the game.
“Overall, overall, as I said, I don’t think much. Sometimes the winner doesn’t think.” The top added that he was cheered by his family in the crowd, including his grandmother. “If you think too much, then you might be nervous, and I thought, ‘Okay, work time, the time to finish it.’
“For a player like Karen, you probably only have a chance to turn it off. If I don’t, it could be the game, it could be the tough third set, you’ll never know. But I’m glad I kept the focus. In the end, it went smoothly.”
