Golf Business News – Welsh Golf launches a bold campaign to bring more women into the game

Welsh Golf has announced the official launch of its new flagship participation event, “Give Golf Ball”, aimed at encouraging more women and juniors in Wales to take the first step in a passionate, supportive and accessible way.
The event was held on 17 June in the summer of the Welsh women’s sport “New2golf” event, which marks an important moment for Welsh competition and is followed by initiatives introduced by Welsh golf to make the competition more popular to make women and girls more popular, such as the Welsh government providing a £1m investment from the Welsh government to improve facilities at golf courses across Wales.
Some of Wales’ biggest sports names participated in the event, including Welsh rugby stars Sian Jones and Molly Reardon, Cricket Sensation Bethan Gammon and Netball Aces Elle McDonald, Leah Middleton, KC Chawane and Alex Johnson.
Welsh Golf Squad member Harriet Lockley also joined them, and was the first British female judo to earn the world’s No. 1 ranking, Natalie Powell joined the Welsh Golf staff after retirement, with the event being coached by former Valles Golf player Jordan Ryan.
The “new2golf” event marks an important moment in the sports calendar, setting expectations ahead of the AIG Women’s Open. One of the most prestigious matches on the women’s golf course, the first time in history will be held in Wales later this year.
Welsh rising star Darcey Harry recently won her first title on the Women’s European Tour, which means she will be attending her family class, Royal Porthcawl.
The event provides a unique opportunity to inspire a new wave at all levels by showing elite women’s movement on Welsh soil.
The broader strategy of Wales Golf, everyone’s game, makes participation and makes the sport more inclusive.
Despite the increased interest in golf among women and girls in recent years, the number of players in the match and club membership remains insufficient.
The event aims to challenge the view that golf is exclusive or inaccessible, but rather opens it to everyone as a friendly, flexible and affordable event.

Hannah McAllister, CEO of Welsh Golfsaid: “We know that when women and girls have the opportunity to try golf in the right environment, they find real joy. But for some, the sport feels closed or scary.
“Give Golf” is our way of showing that golf can adapt to life, whether you are looking for fun social activities, new hobbies or ways to support your mental and physical well-being.
“You didn’t need to play before, and you certainly didn’t need to own a club. You just have to be curious.”
The event draws on the foundations of Welsh Golf in recent years to improve accessibility through programs such as the New2Golf program, which has introduced thousands of adults in a friendly, non-competitive environment.
The initiative also supports the primary development pathway of Welsh Golf, which helps young players build confidence, develop skills and advance at their own pace.
The introduction of Flexi-Club also makes it easier for new players or returnees to gain official barriers without the need for full club membership.
This summer, facilities across Wales will host a wide variety of “Give Golf” courses, each session tailored for complete beginners.
Golf is a unique and beneficial sport. It combines light sports activities with outdoor activities, providing experienced mental health benefits, strong social elements, and opportunities to build lasting friendships.
Unlike many sports, it is not limited by age or ability, making it an ideal lifelong activity. Importantly, no previous experience or equipment is required, just willing to try it out.
Whether you’re looking for a new way to engage in activities, meet like-minded people, or just trying something different this summer, “Get Golf Comes Together” is the perfect starting point.
