Golf Business News – Footjoy celebrates 80th anniversary, becoming the first golf shoe, launching a new legendary series of models

Since 1945, footjoy has been a professional golf shoe ever since. The brand’s first breakthrough came in 1927, when Footjoy Sales Rep Miles Baker convinced the captain of the American Ryder Cup team that his players should wear women’s shoes during the inaugural match at Worcester Country Club in Massachusetts, and they did, beating the visiting Great Britain team 9.5-2.5-2.5.
Johnny Farrell, a member of the U.S. team, loved the shoes very much, and he won the 36-hole playoff victory at the 1928 U.S. Open. This is the first of over 8,000 wins in FJ shoes.
The news spread rapidly between players, and when the number of shoes began to track in the professional competition in 1945, footjoy was firmly firmly placed on the shoes of choice. From that year to this year, FJ has been the shoes chosen by more professionals since then.
Today, the two-way formulas established early in these early days are still used, a relentless commitment to golf-specific innovation that delivers first-class performance, comfort and style.
“I have never worn another golf shoe in my life since I wore my dad’s crafted white FJ classic wings,” said Adam Scott. “I really believe they are just the best – the best performance and the best look.”
“I just made a big change, from wearing my entire career like the Premiere series (like the Premiere series) to the new HyperFlex,” said Justin Thomas. “Doing that, and still being my best bet in the sole family. I believe in their jobs and why they are doing, I know the shoes will be great, and I know I’ll get what I want in the game.”
To celebrate 80 years of golf shoes, Footjoy will launch the legendary series Drop III, which is intended to mark FJ’s long-term commitment to making the best golf shoes in the world. The limited edition golf shoe collection from Legends is designed to celebrate some of the most iconic moments in the game.

Drop III is a premiere series Packard model with elevated navy and red accents that include the red “1945” of the midsole, celebrating the success of the FJ legend. This combines with hand-chosen quality whole grain leather to provide an iconic look to players with a discerning styling feel. Supercharged for today’s players, the shoes feature the popular Versatrax+ outsole, with multiple traction elements creating a system that delivers excellent performance on any surface.
The FJ Premiere Series Packard Liberty golf shoes are available for sale from June 10 at www.footjoy.co.uk and select retailers, while the stock continues.
