Olivia Gadecki and John Peers kept their cool to claim another victory at home at the Australian Open on Friday.

The home favorites successfully defended their mixed doubles crown, defeating Manuel Ginard and Kristina Mladenovic 4-6, 6-3, 10-8 at Rod Laver Arena. Gadecki and Pearce are the first team to win back-to-back mixed doubles titles at Melbourne Park since Jana Nowotna and Jim Pugh in 1988-89, and the first Australians to win back-to-back mixed doubles titles at Melbourne Park since Margaret Court and Ken Fletcher in 1963-64.

“I don’t quite know where to start. I can’t believe we’re in this position now,” Gadecchi said at the ceremony. “First of all, I want to thank our opponents for such a great game. You guys had such a great week, so congratulations. Peesy, [thanks] Want to play with me again this year. Thank you so much for letting me share the courtroom with you. To lift the trophy again this year is unbelievable.

“I know we can do it, but I don’t think we can really do it, if you know what I mean!”

“I’m kind of speechless. Thank you for playing with me again this week, and somehow we kind of snuck this one away. It’s been so much fun sharing the course with you and enjoying every moment here.”

Despite losing the first set three times, the wild card pair of Gadecki and Pierce quickly regained their composure and rallied to win. They got the only break of the second set in the fourth game and then came back from 5/7 to win five of the last six points to win the tie-break, according to Infosys Stats.

This is the third Grand Slam mixed doubles title for Pierce, who was the No. 2 player in the PIF ATP doubles rankings and also won the 2022 U.S. Open with another Australian player, Saunders. At the same time, this is WTA star Gadecki’s second Grand Slam title after winning with Pierce at Melbourne Park in 2025.
