Entering third grade, Victor Wembanyama is a favorite to win DPOY

The 2025-26 season is only a few weeks away. The team will be in Traning Camp and preseason ahead of Tuesday, October 21 opening night. One team that won the playoff wish in 2025-26 is the Spurs.

Last year, San Antonio ranked 13th at the Western Conference. This is mainly because Victor Wembanyama missed the last 30 games of the regular season of the 2024-25 season due to injury. Wembanyama was diagnosed with deep venous thrombosis in the right shoulder. However, the All-Stars have been cleared once before the camp. For the second straight season, Victor Wembanyama is a major betting favorite to win the defensive player of the year.

Will Victor Wembanyama win the Defensive Player of the Year in 2025-26?

If Victor Wembanyama stays healthy in 2024-25, he may win the Defensive Player of the Year. Unfortunately, the injured Wembanyama last season limited 46 games. To win the season-end award, players must compete at least 65 games. Wembanyama did not meet this requirement in 2024-25. In his 46 games against San Antonio, he averaged 24.3 points, 11.0 rebounds, 3.7 assists, 1.1 steals and a league-leading 3.8 blocks.

That was Wembanyama’s second straight season leading the NBA with each game. Wembanyama became the sixth player in NBA history on average four times per game in a season. He will join Mark Eaton, Elmore Smith, Manute Bol, Dikembe Mutombo and Patrick Ewing. If he accomplishes this feat and plays at least 65 games, it’s almost impossible for Wembanyama to win DPOY in 2025-26.

Entering the upcoming season, it is no surprise who is the favorite to win the DPOY bet. Victor Wenbamyama is an elite superstar in defense. No player in today’s game had the same effect on the end of the floor as Wembanyama did. He is indeed one of them and is a favorite to win the defensive player of the year. Can the top 1 pick stay healthy and win awards in 2025-26?

The end of Victor Wembanyama’s 2024-25 campaign has disappointed San Antonio. But, the Young Center says there is no player training him in the offseason way. Wembanyama also said he felt better and looked stronger. He had no limitations before transcending camp. The Spurs wanted to hear it. Through the deal and draft, San Antonio has built a lineup around Victor Wembanyma to attend the Western Conference.
