World No. 1 Scottie Scheffler spent his early game at the Procore Championship in Napa, California, playing as much as possible on the route and in the game before a two-week showdown with Bethpage Black.
Then came the tournament, the first game of the FedEx Cup fall slate on the PGA Tour, and Scheffler did everything he did all year round, whether it was in the CJ Cup Byron Nelson or the Open Championship: He slowly went up the rankings and ended up being the last guy standing trophy.
Scheffler started Rocky at Silverado Resort time as he worked hard to slow down the greens. But a Saturday’s 64 vault put him within two shots of Ben Griffin. Schaffler missed a five-foot birdie putt to tie the last hole after finishing with six birdies in the final round of the final round of the final round of the 67, with PAR and Top Griffin on Sunday.
The victory is Schaffler’s sixth place this season, and according to Justin Ray, he is the fourth player since 1960, winning the PGA Tour six times in a row. The other three? Tiger Woods (three times), Jack Nicklaus (1972-73) and Arnold Palmer (three times).
Scheffler’s victory in Wineland is a week away from Cherry, which is about the upcoming event. After the U.S. suffered competitive rust (among other things) in Rome’s losses in 2023, Schaffler believes that Napa’s Ryder Cup training camp did the job.
“I always do my best to play the game, which is what makes me confident, and I feel like I’m ready for the Ryder Cup,” Scheffler said after his win on Sunday. “I think we’re all excited to play. We have three days in New York to compete and have fun. We’re all looking forward to it.”

Team USA’s Ryder Cup training camp seemed to have been successful. Scheffler and Griffin knocked it out on Sunday, with JJ Spaun and Cameron Young each combing in the top ten. Russell Henley started strong on the weekend but fell on the weekend, while Justin Thomas, Harris English and Collin Morikawa were not competitive in Napa.
While Scheffler’s victory will be the headlines for Team USA’s Ryder Cup Prep week, his two teammates are shining stars before the weekend run.
The first one is Griffin. Griffin, a Ryder Cup rookie who won the Charles Schwab Challenge and the team event Zurich Classic this season, continued his frenzy of favourites in Napa, without rusting in the weeks since the Fedex Cup. What Scheffler hasn’t had any surprises since is that Griffin is a junior golfer.
“When you talk to Ben, he’s a confident guy and he has a lot of self-confidence,” Scheffler said. “That’s why we like him being a part of the Ryder Cup team.
“Ben always does a lot of work, he’s always looking for improvement. He’s never lacking confidence, he’s going to be a big part of our Ryder Cup team this year, and I’m sure he’s going to be a part of many teams, too.”
As Griffin and Scheffler show, they are ready, and a member of Team USA is not allowed to play at Silverado Resort, continuing to explain why he can eventually be Bradley’s greatest weapon.
Bryson DeChambeau attended a team-building event held by the U.S. team in Napa. Although he was not a member of the PGA Tour, he was unable to compete, but DeChambeau continued to impress his teammates with his own buying and team-first attitude.
“Not only this week, he’s working hard to attend other meetings and other dinners,” Collin Morikawa told Dechambeau on Wednesday. “It shows that he just cared. I think the whole personal aspect, we’re throwing it out the window and we’re all going to work with the team.”
Over the past few months, Bradley has been energetic in his praise of Dechambeau and continues to praise Liv Golf Star for winning the Ryder Cup in Bethpage Black, regardless of his position in the ongoing civic conflict in professional golf.
“In the world of golf, we’re sitting in an awkward place in the world of golf,” Bradley said Wednesday. “A lot of Bryson’s responsibilities fell on Bryson. He had to put in more effort than a lot of people. Bryson was there last night. He was always incredible. He was always incredible. I’ve been going beyond this team. I think it’s a good team to show that it’s a great team. Airplane, he has to go to these meetings, and I think it’s a great thing, and it shows Bryson’s commitment to the team.
“Obviously, from the perspective of how great his players are, he’s funny, he’s great with young people. It’s fun to see Bryson in the atmosphere outside the golf course.”
Bradley didn’t insist on watching Sunday’s ending. He doesn’t need it. Like everyone else, he has seen Schefller suffocate the golf game in the past few years.
He just hopes that the world’s No. 1 will do it again in two weeks at Bethpage Black.
