Projection lineup for the 2026 Winter Olympics in Switzerland – Hockey Writer – Olympics
It is fair to say that the Winter Olympics are not friendly to Switzerland. Switzerland finished eighth in 2022, tenth in 2018 and ninth in 2014, the last NHL player played.
However, there is reason to remain optimistic about 2026. First, NHL players are allowed to participate in the Winter Olympics. Nico Hischier, Timo Meier, Kevin Fiala, Nino Niederreiter, Roman Josi and Jonas Siegenthaler have been appointed to the team. More NHL players and European professionals will join them soon.

If Switzerland is looking for a company sponsor, they may want to consider the New Jersey Devil, as Hischier, Meier and Siegenthaler are all part of the organization. The Swiss team and New Jersey also have the same color scheme.
While kidding, Switzerland does have an attractive top six groups. Hischier and Meier obviously had chemistry since their time with the devil. Adding Fiala to their series can make opposing defenses difficult. The two focused on Hischier and Meier, with a goal rate of 53% in 2024-25 with the Devil. In addition, their high-crisis chances are 55.85% respectively.
Niederreiter’s second line, Pius Suter and Denis Malgin, can also be tricky. Suter broke out against the Canucks last season and tended to produce very strong defense numbers at the NHL level. Malgin now plays professionally in Switzerland, registering a little bit in every match in the World Championships since 2022.
In the lineup, the Swiss can get value from Philipp Kurashev, Sven Andrighetto and Simon Knak.
On the defensive side, Roman Josi will be the main force of Switzerland. In all cases, the captain of the Nashville Predators will be relied on, including Power Games, which may be dangerous to join Josi along with Hischier (Bumper), Meier (right), Fiala (left), and Niederreiter (Net Front).
However, for the Swiss, to be successful, Siegenthaler, JJ Moser, Dean Kukan and Lian Bischel all need to strengthen their defense. Siegenthaler, in particular, has been able to play a role in closing in the past.
In the network, veteran Leonardo Genoni may start most of it – and that’s for good reason. The 37-year-old has performed well on the international stage over the past five years. He won the 2025 World Championship with seven games of 0.99 GAA and .953. The results for the 2022 Olympics are similar – Genoni recorded a 1.13 GAA and a 0.961 percentage savings.
Akira Schmid can also be started based on the fare in Switzerland. However, overall, this will be Genoni’s network.
