Yankees designate Tyler Matzek for distribution

Yankees announce left-handed Tyler Matzek Has been assigned as a job. This opens an active roster for right-handers Jonathan Loáisigahe recovered from the 15-day injury list. Their 40-man lineup dropped from 39 to 38.
Less than a month ago, Matzek, 34, was selected for the major league roster. He has since thrown 6 1/3 innings for the Yankees on seven appearances. He allowed three runs at that time, resulting in a passable 4.26 ERA. However, he posted 5 walks within this range, with a ratio of 14.3%.
This is a fairly small sample, but the controls in the past were Matzek's problems. His major league career has a walking rate of 11.7%. His early professionals in the Rockies were hampered by these control issues. Later, he revitalized his career in Atlanta, but still revolved around some pretty high walks. From 2020 to 2022, he showed up in Atlanta's 2.92 pictures despite walking 13.4% of the batsmen left. However, he also beat 27.4% of his opponents.
He has been unable to pitch for the past two seasons. He asked Tommy John to take surgery in late 2022, killing his 2023. Last year, further troubles at the elbow left him on the shelf for the most part. He only made 10 innings in the major leagues.
This winter, Yankees were able to get him into a minor league contract and take him to the Grand Slam, but they seemed to move on quickly. This will make them a little short on the left-handed relief. Ryan Yarbrough Always working, so Tim Hill Now, Matzek is gone, the only real Southpaw Reliever.
DFA Limbo can last for a week, although the exemption process takes 48 hours, meaning any trade possibilities must be explored within the next five days. Matzek hasn't had much recent record, but he has at least some success. If he passes an unclaimed waiver, he has plenty of service time to refuse direct tasks and elect free agents.
