Wrexham

Wrexham is struggling to bring Welsh forward Nathan Broadhead to Ipswich’s Stok Cae Ras, with the transfer likely to rise to £10m.

Although upfront payments will be significantly below that number, the 27-year-old’s move is designed to comfortably erode Wrexham’s existing transfer record.

Broadhead, which can operate throughout the front line, is in the final 12 months of contract with Ipswich.

Wrexham has repeatedly pushed their spending restrictions as actors Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney gained ownership of the club in 2021.

Their current record-breaking expenses are reportedly over £3 million, and they signed Lewis O’Brien of Nottingham Forest last month.

Broadhead will be the ninth new arrival of North Wales Club in the summer, and they were promoted to the league first place last season.

He will follow in the footsteps of Wales International Danny Ward and Kieffer Moore joining Wrexham.

Other signings in the summer include forwards Josh Windass and Ryan Hardie, defenders Conor Coady and Liberato Cacace, as well as midfielders George Thomason and O’Brien.

Broadhead was born in Bangor and was once part of Wrexham’s career before he started his career at Everton.

He permanently joined Ipswich in 2023 after a loan spell with Burton Albion, Sunderland and Wigan Athletic.

Last season, he scored two Premier League goals in 18 times under manager Kieran McKenna.

On the international stage, Broadhead found the Nets twice in 14 games in Wales, with his first goal making his debut against Croatia in 2023.
