Work to begin on St. Andrews Old Course – Golf News

Elaborate work will begin next week to improve and restore the Old Course ahead of the 155th editionth Opening in 2027.
The project will refine the strategic challenges faced by a small number of regional elite players in future championships, while restoring traditional features that have evolved over time to enhance the daily playing experience for local and visiting golfers on the world-famous golf course.
There will also be a separate upgrade to the course’s aging irrigation system during this period, providing a more efficient tool for turf management. Both projects will be carried out simultaneously to minimize disruption.
Follow 150th The course is due to open in 2022 and has been reviewed and proposed changes carefully planned with the consent of the St Andrews Links Trust, which manages the old course, and The R&A, which is responsible for The Open Championship.
Design work will be undertaken by leading international golf course architects and links golf experts Mackenzie & Ebert.

The work will restore features that have subtly changed over time and refine others to preserve the course’s unique character.
