Wimbledon 2025: Nicolas Jarry prepares to face Cameron Norrie

When Jarry’s symptoms began, he entered the top 20 in the world and joined the Rome Masters final, where he was defeated by Alexander Zverev.

Jarry was told it would take three weeks to recover, but there was still a year of attacks. Given the hand-eye coordination it requires, tennis is a good form of recovery, but he has been working hard to win, falling to 143 in the world and six straight first-round Grand Slam exits.

He recalled that everything in Rome was “moving like a tornado”, but it quickly disappeared.

A similar feeling about the French Open made him “not contacting the ball” and “not good to read the game” before a match, and he returned to Chile, where he experienced the worst events so far.

Jarry also played table tennis to help him recover, and Wimbledon’s active run could only be encouraging.

“My favorite game was the best Wimbledon performance, which was amazing,” said Jarry, who was excited on the court after defeating teenage talent Joao Fonseca in four games on Friday.

There is a reason this game means a lot to him.

The match was in the fourth round with his grandfather Jaime Fillol, who came to the same stage in 1974 at Wimble.

“I came here with him when I was 10 and 11. Since then, I’ve fallen in love with this game.”

“It has been very difficult physically, emotionally, psychologically.

“I’ve been trying to get back to my level and believe in myself again.”
