Wimbledon 2025: How to determine wildcards?

Wildcard places are additional attractions for players who do not automatically qualify for tennis tournaments.

They have been awarded at Wimbledon since 1977 and are at the discretion of the All England Lawn Club committee.

Usually, based on their previous performances at Wimbledon, or adding players in the UK to play.

Since 2003, some wildcard attractions for singles matches have been determined by the “playoff” tournament.

Two years before that, Goran Ivanisevic famously won the men’s singles title as a wildcard contestant, while Serena and Venus Williams won the women’s doubles twice from the same point.

Wimbledon’s latest wildcard winners are Jonathan Marray and Frederik Nielsen in the 2012 Men’s Doubles.

Andy and Jamie Murray were handed over to men’s doubles last year but were eliminated in the first round.
