Italian Open: Carlos Alcaraz

The third in the Spanish world, Carlos Alcaraz said he “passed the exam” after he recovered from a direct victory in the Italian Open due to injury.

Alcaraz, 22, withdrew from the Madrid Open last month when he was dealing with a hamstring and groin injury in the Barcelona Open final.

When the Spanish capital announced the decision, the four-time main champion was uncertain whether he was suitable enough to compete in this week's Italian Open.

This also brought his condition into the upcoming French Open, where Alcaraz hopes to defend the men's singles championship.

Alcaraz said before the opening match in Rome that he felt “100%” and he was in a good shape – excellent in a 6-3 6-3 victory against Dusan Lajovic qualifier.

“The body feels great,” said Alcaraz, who is also Wimbledon champion.

“I did some good sprints today without any pain. It was great.

“I think I passed the test. Trying to feel more comfortable on the court without having to think about the injury.”

Alcaraz is led by the first round goodbye, and will play the 31st-seeded U.S. seed Alex Michelsen or Serbia's Laslo Djere for the past 32 seasons.
