White Sox logo first-round draft pick Billy Carlson

White Sox has signed shortstop Billy Carlsonreport Jim Callis of MLB.com. Sox picked Carlson with a first-round pick in the draft last week. The signature bonus is $6,235,900, which is actually the 10th pick slot value. ESPN’s Jesse Rogers first reported the signature and pointed out that the bonus would be “approximately” 6.2mm.
Keith Law, who is from MLB Pipeline, Baseball USA, ESPN, Fangraphs and track and field, all brought Carlson from No. 7 to No. 7 in class. All the assessors praised their gloves, and many considered him the best defender in the class. BA mentioned his “soft and smooth movements in the fields with clean hands”. His arms are strong enough that he is considered a potential two-way player, and for some time his fastball has hit 97 miles an hour on the mound.
There is more hesitation in the offense. His popular tools get more compliments than his power, as he usually has contact-oriented line drivers. As his maturity seems to be a key question here, whether he will develop into more power.
Currently, the White Sox has no answer in terms of shortstop. Chase Meidroth Currently getting most of the game time, it’s good enough this year, but in the long run he’s expected to be a versatile guy. Colson Montgomery A year is full of challenges and more third bases are currently being played.
As a high school choice, Carlson will not be the short-term solution. Until next week, he wasn’t even 19 years old. He has been years since major league level help, but according to reports, he seems to be a locked lock in the long run. The only question is what he will be able to offer on the plate.
