White Socks Release Gus Varland

White Sox releases right-handed Gus VarlandAccording to his transaction tracker on MLB.com. Earlier this week, Sox was assigned as a mission when he chose the infielder Jacob Amaya.
Once Varland enters DFA Limbo, it will inevitably be released. Since the deadline has passed, transactions cannot be made. During his DFA, Varland was also on the minor league injury list. The injured player cannot give up completely.
He will now head to the open market to see what to wait for him. He will not be able to help any club in the short term. According to Scott Merkin of MLB.com, the forearm strain sent him to Illinois earlier this year. James Fegan of Sox Machine said Varland has been a year.
The club should still be interested in Varland, which is a long-term game. The 28-year-old has had some success in his record track record. Overall, he averaged 4.82 in 46 2/3 innings, but his recent major league games were better than that. Sox seized Dodgers’ immunity last August. He has since beaten 20 1/3 innings with a 3.54 ERA, 28.2% strikeout rate, 4.7% walking rate and 40.4% ground ball rate.
In 2025, his spring was difficult and he started an optional task for minors. He only made two appearances before landing on the IL. He tried to recover in June, but the rehabilitation mission lasted only six times. Varland still has an option after this season, serving less than a year. Even if he can’t do anything this year, the team will be interested in him in 2026 and beyond.
