When Will Warriors’ Stephen Curry Retire from the NBA?

Golden State Warriors star guard Stephen Curry enters his 16th NBA season this fall, but late in his Hall of Fame career, the two-time MVP still has no timetable for retirement.
“There’s no clue. I just know it’s closer than yesterday,” Curry told ESPN’s Malika Andrews when asked if he knew when he would finally resign.
“It’s funny to admit, because the more I talk about it, the more I appreciate everything that goes into preparing yourself. But, all of those things are just privileges that you get. I’m trying not to put any time stamp or anything other than the urgency of now.”
In 70 games (all starts) last season, Curry averaged 24.5 points, 4.4 rebounds, 6.0 assists, 1.1 steals and 32.2 minutes of action while shooting 44.8% from the field, 39.7% from deep and 93.3% from the foul line.
On March 8, he became the 26th player in NBA history to reach 25,000 career points in the third quarter of the Golden State Warriors’ 115–110 victory over the Detroit Pistons.
According to Basketball Reference, Curry found success in his 1,011th regular season season. He finished with 32 points, 3 rebounds, 4 assists and 1 steal in 33 minutes of action.
Curry also became the first NBA player to score 4,000 career three-pointers. Curry (4,058) and James Harden (3,175) are the only players in league history with at least 3,000 career 3’s.
“It’s crazy, crazy,” Warriors coach Steve Kerr said of his veteran superstar. “Literally, it felt like 25,000 3s. It was dynamite. Just at night, tonight was obviously not a good shooting night for him.
“But I love that he plays through fatigue and physical defense and gets to the line twelve times. On nights where his shot really wasn’t there, he’s still smart, he’s still good. That’s the mark of a great player.”
Curry signed an extension with the Warriors last year
Curry signed a one-year, $62.6 million extension with the Warriors last August. The deal keeps the 11-time All-Star under contract with Golden State through the 2026-27 season.
Curry joins LeBron James, Paul George and Kevin Durant as the fourth NBA player to earn $500 million in career earnings.
Curry still has two years left on the four-year, $215.4 million contract he signed in August 2021.
He is eligible to sign only a one-year extension due to the NBA’s Rule 38, which prevents teams from offering four-year or longer contracts to players who are 38 or older during the deal.
The Warriors open their 2025-26 season by visiting the Los Angeles Lakers on October 21.
