Warriors show interest in 2021 NBA champion Bobby Portis

The 2025 offseason is crucial to the Milwaukee Bucks. The name of the two-time MVP Giannis Antetokounmpo was abandoned in several trade rumors. If they are separated from Antetokounmpo, the trajectory of their franchise will completely change.
Giannis is not the only Bucks player to leave the team in the 2025-26 season. Experienced big man Bobby Portis has a $13.4 million player option for the 2025-26 season. Portis may reject the offer and attack free agents. If that happens, NBA insider Jake Fischer hopes the Warriors swing in the 2021 NBA championship.
Will Bobby Portis stand out from Milwaukee in the offseason?

With the 22nd pick in the 2015 NBA Draft, the Bulls chose Bobby Portis from Arkansas. He played in Chicago for three and a half seasons before trading him to the Wizards in 2018-19. The following season, he signed a one-year, $15 million contract for the Knicks. Portis signed with the Milwaukee Bucks before 2021-22. That’s where the 30-year-old player has been in the last five seasons.
He has played 339 Bucks and has 99 games. In 2024-25, Portis played 49 games and played 7 games for Milwaukee. During the offseason, Portis has a $13.4 million player option. He could easily pick up the option and stay on the bucks. However, Portis can test free agent waters to see if another team knocks on the door. NBA insider Jake Fischer believes the Warriors will be one of them.
Fischer noted that Warriors head coach Steve Kerr is a “famous fan” of Bobby Portis. When Portis played against American baseball at the 2023 FIBA World Cup, they spent some time together. After the 2024-25 trade deadline, it is clear that the Warriors need help in the frontcourt. Bobby Portis will be the valuable depth and potential starter for the Warriors next season. We’ll see if the 2021 NBA champion stays in a familiar place or if it’s looking for a new team to call home.
