Warriors add Tony Mansolino, JP Martinez to coaching staff

The Braves announced Friday the hiring of former Orioles interim manager Tony Mansolino as their new third base coach. He will replace Fredi Gonzalez, who was reported to be leaving the company earlier this week. Atlanta also hired former Giants pitching coach JP Martinez (not to be confused with the former Braves outfielder of the same name) as their new bullpen coach.

After Baltimore fired O’s captain Brandon Hyde in mid-May, the 43-year-old Mansolino replaced him. Prior to this appointment, he had been Hyde’s third base coach – a role he has held since the 2021 season. Before being hired in Baltimore, Mansolino was hitting coach and infield coordinator in Cleveland. He was drafted in the 26th round by the Pirates in 2005, and he played as an infielder in the Pittsburgh system from 2005-10 and later as a pro on the independent circuit.

Mansolino led the O’s to a 60-59 record, but that wasn’t enough to erase a disastrous start to the season. Baltimore finished last in the AFC East with a 75-87 record. He was in the running for the full-time managerial position with the Orioles, but the job went to Guardians associate head coach and bench coach Craig Albernaz.

Martinez, also 43, serves as San Francisco’s pitching coach in 2025 and as the Giants’ assistant pitching coach from 2021-24. Back in 2015, he entered the coaching ranks at the lower levels of the Twins system. He served as pitching coach at Minnesota’s rookie level and High-A affiliate before being named the organization’s overall minor league pitching coordinator in 2018 until being hired by the Giants in the 2020-21 offseason.
