Viktor Hovland is injured and rarely uses Ryder Cup rules

Viktor Hovland did not compete on Saturday afternoon. Therefore, the “envelope” may work on Sunday.

envelope? If someone is unable to play Sunday singles due to injury, it is the Ryder Cup agreement. No team on both sides agrees that before the event, each captain will select a player to sit down – the player’s name will be placed in an envelope and will only be cancelled in an emergency.

The rule can now be called. Hovland was declared as Europeans for a four-ball game Saturday afternoon due to a neck injury before being beaten by Tyrrell Hatton (and replaced by Tyrrell Hatton) – at least some questions about whether Hovland could play on Sunday.

Analyst Paul McGinley put forward the idea on NBC broadcast, who also held a consulting role for the European team.

“Yes, the terrible envelope may have to work,” McKinley said on the radio.

“Hopefully that’s not the case. We have a great physiological team with us. They also practice traveling with us, are well versed in all the players and trust them so they will be working on the Magic this afternoon.”

Hovland and partner Robert MacIntyre defeated Americans Scottie Scheffler and Russell Henley in four games Saturday morning. Afterward, Hofland told reporters he had problems with his neck over the past two months and he brought painkillers to the 10th hole on Saturday’s seventh hole. He said he played after the game and he felt he couldn’t play on Saturday afternoon.

“I didn’t want to get worse and couldn’t continue, especially in a four-ball game, and I had to quit the Travelers Championship earlier this year. I had to play two holes and then I didn’t want to do it for a few months, so I didn’t want to struggle, but I had to work hard.

“I’m going to have some treatment this afternoon and tonight, and hopefully the singles tomorrow can do it.”

Twice, the “envelope” has come into play.

In 1991, Steve Pat suffered a bruised rib in a car accident a few days before the event. He sat until Saturday afternoon, but Reaggrav was injured and called and he couldn’t go on Sunday – David Gilford’s name was taken out of the envelope.

Two years later, Europe was injured. Sam Torrance is dealing with infected toes and he needs to sit down on Sunday – but this time, Lanny Wadkins, a U.S., volunteered and the envelope never opened.
