Carlos Alcaraz wins 2026 Australian Open: Numbers behind world No.1’s historic win

Alcaraz’s next piece of history will be to emulate Laver and become only the second man in the Open Era to achieve a calendar Grand Slam – winning all four Grand Slams in the same year.
Asked about the possibility, Alcaraz said: “It would be a huge challenge.
“I only want one at a time. The next one is Roland Garros and I feel special every time I go there.
“I don’t want to put pressure on myself to have to do it.”
As has been the case the past two seasons, Sinner appears to be his biggest obstacle.
The Italian will have the chance to complete his career Grand Slam at the French Open after losing to Alcaraz in last year’s epic match.
Since Djokovic won the 2023 U.S. Open, Alcaraz or Sinner have won the past nine Grand Slam tournaments.
Although Alcaraz split from long-time coach Juan Carlos Ferrero in December after seven years together and Sinner lost to Djokovic in a thrilling five-set semi-final in Melbourne, their dominance doesn’t look like it will end anytime soon.
After the final, Djokovic praised Alcaraz: “This result is a testament to his already brilliant career. He deserves every bit of praise he gets.”
“He is already a legendary tennis player and has left a huge mark on tennis history.
“Anything is possible for him, there’s no doubt about it.”
