USGA launches new internship program through PGA Tour, Pebble Beach, others

In its latest push to expand the road to golf, USGA has announced a new internship program in partnership with eight other major golf entities, including PGA Tour and LPGA.

According to a USGA press release, the path launch program is designed to “expand the pipeline for future leaders in golf.” A three-month salary internship will allow undergraduate and graduate students to demonstrate a desire for leadership and a desire to work in golf or sports and place it in one of nine golf organizations, companies or resorts. The program will focus on leadership training, mentoring and developing hard skills.

“We can do more together than do one person, and we are building a model of the pathways that have been successful to open up opportunities to more people,” USGA CEO Mike Whan said in a press release. “These rising professionals, each organization and ultimately the game are benefiting from the next step forward and we are pleased that everyone involved has embraced the vision.”

The program will be internships with companies that come into contact with all aspects of golf, from merchandise and hospitality to professional competitions and fan engagement.

Here are the nine entities participating in the Pathway Launch Program:

  • USGA
  • PGA Tour
  • LPGA Tour
  • Pebble Beach Company
  • Pinehurst Resort Club
  • American PGA
  • Dick’s Sports Goods/Golf Galaxy
  • Golf Pride
  • Top golf Callaway brand

Each intern will receive an hourly salary funded by USGA and other participating organizations. Interns can also receive assistance with housing fees, opening the door to applicants who otherwise are not applicable. The internship will provide students with first-hand experience in the field and provide them with networking opportunities.

The Pathways Release Program was developed under USGA’s Pathways Program, which was launched in 2022 at the Country Club in Brooklyn, Massachusetts. This is the latest move by USGA to invest in enhancing next-generation golf leadership with an eye to provide more golf care opportunities from all backgrounds.

“Because of this incredible community of players, volunteers and industry colleagues, they come with us every day to introduce more people to the game, which has never been higher for golf’s energy and interest,” said USGA President Fred Perpall. “It is because of the success of these efforts that we can move forward and leave a legacy that will have lasting impact.”

Applications released on this path are now open and will be closed on November 14. Finalists will be invited to join the recruitment event for the USGA headquarters in Liberty Point, New Jersey, which will begin in early June at the 2026 U.S. Women’s Open.

Interested applicants can apply on the USGA Career page.
