US Open Results 2025: UK’s Alfie Hewett, Gordon Reid, Greg Slade and Andy Lapthorne arrive in round 2

Britain’s Alfie Hewett started his third straight American Open Wheelchair Singles Championship with a win over American Charlie Cooper.
The second seed Hewitt only took 61 minutes to beat the 17-year-old with a score of 6-0 6-2.
The timetable for wheelchair tennis and Paralympic clashes will be returned in New York, meaning the competition was not held last year.
Hewett won the championship in 2022 and 2023 and he won his second Grand Slam singles title this season after winning at the Australian Open in January.
His long-time doubles partner, Gordon Reid, won late Wednesday, and defeated Spain’s Daniel Caverzaschi 7-6 (7-4) 4-6 6-1 after two hours and 33 minutes.
British men Greg Slade and Andy Lapthorne also entered the second round of the second singles.
Slade saved three games before defeating Brazil’s Leandro Pena 6-3 4-6 7-6 (11-9), while Lapthorne – twice in the U.S. Open – beat South Africa’s Donald Donald Ramphadi 6-2 6-3.
In women’s wheelchair singles, Lucy Shuker beat 6-3 6-0 in the match against Dutch 23-time Grand Slam champion Diese De Groot, who has yet to win a major title after not having a comeback with hip and shoulder surgery this season.
