US Open: Francesca Jones wins for the first time

Although Hartono, 29, has improved as the scene progresses – she won 13 winners compared to the opponent’s four, the Dutchman was paid 13 unmandatory errors.

The second set lasted until the third game, when Jones (the number one seed in the qualifying round) beat from 40-15 to secure her third break of the day.

World Number 187 Hartono immediately fought back with his own breakthrough when Jones became a little passive, but the British clung to the footwork and broke the game again to regain control of the Topsy-Turvy scene.

She finished the game 10 consecutive points, and then she rushed to the team to celebrate.

The added prize means that the World 86, born in Bradford, has won $10,000 (£7,392) to reach the first round.
