US Open 2025 results: Petra Kvitova fails with Diane Parry

Kvitova has been a fan favorite for years, thanks to her huge ground thorn and a thriving left-handed serve.
There are concerns that her career will end prematurely after being stabbed by an invader in 2016.
The attack damaged the tendons and nerves in her hands, but she returned to the competition in June 2017 and reached the final of the Australian Open two years later.
In recent years, she has lowered her rankings, reaching the quarterfinals of the 2020 Grand Slam for the last time.
Kvitova missed her son, Petr, throughout the 2024 season, and returned to action only in February.
She spent her five tournaments registering her first victory – against Irina -Camelia Begu in Rome in May – but it was her only victory since becoming a mother.
From the farewell she revealed to Wimbledon, she called it a “special place”, Kvitova has called time in the championship career in the past two months, and she reached the quarterfinals twice.
After a quick break against World 107 Parry, she rallyed to 40-0 on the serving field and then saved a breakpoint to put her first game on the board.
But it proved to be her only success, and it was Parry’s one-sided first set ending in just 25 minutes.
Kvitova exited the court between the reorganized assemblies – the prospect of her last game, but already clearly emotionally – but the second game followed a similar pattern.
Parry won the clinical victory, and Kvitova fell behind her serve only 4 points and suffered a second set of bagels.
Kvitova added: “Since I woke up this morning, I felt it. I don’t think that would be great.”
“I can’t eat. I’m really nervous. I can’t move, I can’t shake, I can’t do anything.
“It’s really difficult, but I’m glad I did.”
