US Open 2025 results: Ben Shelton and Taylor Fritz win on New York’s first day

Shelton was the first player to play on the iconic Arthur Ashe performance in this year’s tournament, and it took only over two hours to end the victory.

The first semifinalist performed well, and he won his first ATP Masters title at the Canadian Open earlier this month.

“The U.S. Open is the pinnacle of tennis, and I dreamed of it when I was a kid,” Sheldon said.

“To me, it started to feel like home.”

Shelton beat Fritz in the semi-finals to the Toronto title, and the two could face each other in their last four games in New York.

But Shelton, 22, was cautious when asked if she could go further this year’s game.

“Once you start looking forward, you trip over your feet, so for me, it’s a day.”

“We’ve been here for a long time and I’m looking forward to it.”

Fritz lost to world No. 1 Jannik Sinner in last year’s final and has also performed well in recent months.

He reached Wimbledon’s semifinals and won the pasture championships in Eastborn and Stuttgart, making his format show that he can go a long way in the final Grand Slam this year.
