Oleksandr Zinchenko transfer interest from AC Milan is serious

Charles Watts said Arsenal left-back Oleksandr Zinchenko has developed a strong interest in AC Milan this summer but can wait for a free transfer next year.

Exclusive in this week Attracted by the side In the column, Watts provides some insight into Zinchenko’s situation, which makes it clear that the Ukrainian international can leave the UAE Stadium.

Now, there is more competition on Mikel Arteta’s left-back, which means Zinchenko has dropped the pecking order and played less frequently over the last year or so.

Myles Lewis-Skelly now looks like the top pick for the latter four left, meaning there is some speculation about Milan wanting Riccardo Calafiori.

While discussing the situation with the left back, Watts explained that although Zinchenko is available, Arsenal certainly wouldn’t let Karafioli go.

However, he did add that he could see the former Manchester City defender run the contract and transfer for free next year.

“I still think Riccardo Calafiori will play a big role in Arsenal next season, even with the appearance of Myles Lewis-Skelly,” Watts said.

“I’ve seen the suggestion of potential exit this summer, AC Milan pushed him for him, but I can’t see it myself. I think he has a lot to offer and last season we just used what he could bring with him the scratch.”

He added: “It’s a different story from Oleksandr Zinchenko. He is a player who is willing to sell, and the Italian rhetoric is that Milan has serious interest in him.

“But, wages may be a problem. I’m not sure if Zinchenko will rush to leave. He has a year left in the deal, he makes money at Arsenal, and I can’t see him going anywhere else, especially in Italy.

“So if he stays and sees his contract, I won’t be surprised until he evaluates his choice as a free agent this time next year.”
