Game Preview
The Los Angeles Clippers led a 2-1 lead in the first round of the Western Conference. Denver suffered a 117-83 blowout loss in Game 3 Thursday night.
“It's not over yet, because we're blowing up,” said Clippers coach Tyronn Lue. “We have to come and verify that.”
Denver's two games totaled five points. Game 1 went into overtime, and Game 2 didn't end until the Nuggets missed two 3-pointers in the last few seconds.
“The first two games were very competitive. This game was not,” Nuggets interim coach David Adelman said after Game 3. “But you can come back on Saturday and you can correct a lot of mistakes.”
Kawhi Leonard scored 21 points, 11 rebounds and 6 assists for the Clippers in Game 3. He averaged 27.3 points, 6.7 rebounds, 4.3 assists and 1.7 steals. Leonard also shot 60.8% from the field, including 8 of 16 from 3-pointers.
In addition, James Harden also scored 20 points, 9 assists and 6 rebounds, while Norman Powell scored 20 points and eliminated the triangle. Ivica Zubac also scored 19 points and received nine boards.
“Everyone contributed. It's a great game for all of us,” Leonard said. “Denver is a great team. They've been here before. We still have to stay focused and play together and do a great job with a great mindset.”
Nuggets superstar Nikola Jokic has registered back-to-back triple to improve his career playoff count to 20 and averaged 26 points, 11 rebounds and 11.7 assists in the series. In Game 3, he scored 23 points, 13 rebounds and 13 assists.
According to ESPN's basketball power index, the Clippers have a 60.5% chance of defeating Denver. The Nuggets have been 3-6 in their last six home games in the last nine games.
