Mavericks, Anthony Davis considering trade after Nico Harrison firing

The Dallas Mavericks and Anthony Davis are considering whether to make an in-season trade after general manager Patrick Dumont fired president of basketball operations and general manager Nico Harrison on Tuesday.

“The Mavericks are believed to be working with Davis’ team over the next two-plus months to decide whether to pursue an in-season trade,” NBA insider Mark Stein reported Wednesday.

“Davis’ agent, Rich Paul, and Mavericks owner Patrick Dumont have developed a relationship of regular contact since being introduced during the Mavericks’ play-in victory in Sacramento in April. As such, it is expected that both parties will be somewhat aligned on the next steps.”

Anthony Davis only played 16 games for the Mavericks

The 32-year-old Davis joined Dallas last season as a core player in Luka Doncic’s blockbuster trade and played only nine regular season games.

The 6-foot-10 Davis was recovering from an abdominal injury at the time of the trade and strained his adductor muscle in his debut with Dallas. He missed six weeks with an adductor injury.

During the offseason, Davis also underwent surgery to repair a detached retina he suffered late in the 2024-25 season. On April 2, he injured his right eye during Dallas’ 120-118 victory over the Atlanta Hawks.

His teammate Daniel Gafford accidentally elbowed him in the eye. He left the game bleeding and returned with a bandage over his right eye. The cut above his eye required four stitches.

Davis is now required to wear goggles for the rest of his career.

Davis remains out with calf strain

What’s more, Davis missed the Mavericks’ last seven games with a strained left calf that he suffered in the first quarter of a 107-105 home win over the Indiana Pacers on Oct. 29.

The 10-time All-Star has played at least 32 minutes in each of Dallas’ first four games.

However, he is also listed as probable due to bilateral Achilles tendinopathy, which causes swelling, irritation and inflammation of the Achilles tendon.

Injuries, Doncic’s trade and Harrison’s firing could lead to Davis leaving Dallas. Nothing has gone well for the Mavericks since last season’s shocking star swap.

The team currently has a record of 3 wins and 9 losses, ranking 14th in the Western Conference standings.
