The king consolidates their blue lines
On August 11, 2008, the Kings signed his first NHL contract. They picked him with the second pick in the 2008 NHL entry draft, behind Steven Stamkos, after Guelph Storm in the Ontario Hockey League (OHL).

His offensive numbers increased significantly when he scored 16 goals and 59 points in the 2009-10 year. So far, these 16 goals remain a high level of his career, and he didn’t reach 60 points until the 2017-18 season.
There are many adjectives that can describe Doughty, but reliable is one of the best adjectives to apply. His average ice time per game in his career was 26:10. Since entering the league, only Ryan Suter has had more ice time than Doughty.
London, Ontario natives remain one of the top defenders in the league. He became an All-Star four times in his career. He was a big part of Kings’ Stanley Cup victory in 2012 and 2014, winning the 2016 Norris Trophy for being selected as the NHL’s best Blueliner.
Stellick fell down
Toronto Maple Leaf General Manager Gord Stellick resigned on August 11, 1989. He started working for the Maple Leafs when he was only 17 years old. He made history by becoming the youngest general manager in the history of the league at the age of 30 in April 1988. Four days later, Floyd Smith was appointed as his backup.
Stellick’s tenure with the Maple Leafs lasted only 16 months as he cited the indifference of team owner Harold Ballard when he resigned. The New York Rangers hired him as assistant general manager, but he was fired from that position in 1991.
Stellick has lagged behind the microphone since the end of his executive career. His radio career was successful, hosting a variety of radio and television shows in Toronto, covering Maple Leaf.
Odd number and ending
The New York Rangers purchased Max Bentley’s contract from Maple Leafs on August 11, 1953. Bentley became a star with the Chicago Blackhawks, playing with his brother Doug and the Brothers Awards between 1947 and 1947. In 1947, Bentley was traded to the Maple Leafs, part of a team that won three Stanley Cups in four seasons.
He played in 57 games in the 1953-54 season, scoring 14 goals and 32 points. His rights restored maple leaves when he refused to train for the next fall. When they refused to meet Bentley’s salary increase request, they agreed to release him so that he could become a player/coach for the Saskatoon Quaker in the Western Hockey League (WHL). Repeated back injuries forced him to retire in 1955.
