August 10 is a busy and sad day in NHL history as Hall of Fame member and Chicago Blackhawk legend Tony Esposito passed away in 2021. In other news, a relocated team gained new identity and logos, and the expansion team became the first industry. Finally, the coaching change was made, and two future successful head coaches discovered a new home during the game.
Hockey World Losts Another Legend in Tony Esposito
The world mourned another great hockey player and the loss of humanity on August 10, 2021, when it was announced that Esposito died at the age of 78 after a brief battle with pancreatic cancer. The former Blackhawks star is a regular NHL game that lasted 16 seasons as he retired at the age of 40 with the Calder Trophy and three Vezina Trophys.

Although Esposito didn’t start his career with the Blackhawks, he joined them in 873 of 886 professional games and ended with a goal average of 2.93 goals (GAA) and a savings percentage of .906 (SV%) and 74 closed-ends. He remains the most winning goalkeeper in Blackhawks history, winning 418 wins and is an all-time leader in closed-end (74), savings (24,376) and game (873).
After Esposito retired in 1984, he was inducted into the Hall of Fame in 1988 along with Guy Lafleur, George Hayes, Buddy O’Connor, Brad Park and Edward Snider. His No. 35 was also retired by the Blackhawks in November of the same year. Finally, he was named one of the “100 Greatest Players in NHL History” by the NHL in 2017. He has served as ambassador for the fleet since March 2008 and until his death in 2021.
Avalanche gets their identities
On August 10, 1995, former Quebec Nordic officially named itself the Colorado Avalanche and revealed their new logo and team colors. The series was approved by the league and moved to Denver on June 21, 1995.
The team’s first year in Colorado is one year after another. In December 1995, they traded future Hall of Fame goalkeeper Patrick Roy. At the end of the season, he was the final part of the championship puzzle, hosting the Stanley Cup for the first time in team history.
Ducks make their first deal
Anaheim’s mighty duck began its first franchise history deals on August 10, 1993, with the inauguration season starting about two months. They sent a third-round pick for forwards Todd Ewen and Patrik Carnback, who won the Stanley Cup earlier that spring.
Both players spent the next three seasons with the Ducks. Juventus scored 13 goals and 25 points in 153 games, while Carnback scored 24 goals and 62 points in 148 games. The Canadians used a third-round pick to pick forward Chris Murray. He has seven goals and 13 points in 107 games against Montreal. He traded with Murray Baron to the Phoenix Coyotes in 1997 for defense player Dave Manson.

He won the Stanley Cup with the Carolina Hurricanes in 2006 and won the Stanley Cup finals of the Philadelphia Flyers (2010) and the Nashville Predators (2017). After serving in the Washington Capitals, he is now the head coach of the Wanderers.

On August 10, 1993, the Florida Panthers signed free agent Jody Hull after spending last season with the Ottawa Senators. Over the next five seasons, he played 281 games for the Panthers, scoring 56 and 100 points. In January 1998, he traded with Mark Fitzpatrick to Tampa Bay Lightning for Dino Carelli and Jeff Norton.
Dallas Stars were awarded to Peter Zezel and Grant Marshall on August 10, 1994 as compensation for free agent Mike Craig, the Toronto Maple Leafs. The deal scored 20 goals and 50 points in two of the Stars’ two seasons with the Maple Leafs. Zezel played only 30 games for Stars, but Marshall played 402 games in seven seasons, scoring 52 goals and 134 points.
The Rangers signed free agent center Michael Nilander on August 10, 2004. This is the seventh team of the veteran. He scored 49 points and 162 points in 160 games in New York.
The Penguins acquired goalkeeper Jocelyn Thibault from the Blackhawks on this day in 2005 to earn a fourth-round draft pick. Thibault was originally drafted by Nordiques.Th The overall choice for the NHL to enter the draft in 1993. He is part of the aforementioned return on the Roy deal in 1995. He spent two seasons with the Penguins and scored 0.894 percent savings (SV%) and 3.52 goals – Score Average (GAA) with 8-17-5 (GAA).
Senator head coach Travis Green played 970 games as center in the NHL before moving to the bench. On August 10, 2006, he signed a contract with Duck. This is his second game in 101 games between 1998 and 1999, scoring 18 goals and 46 points. He was with the Ducks for the second time, and he lasted only seven games before being snatched away by Maple Leaf.
On this date in 2022, David Krejci returns to the Brown Bear after a brief overseas tenure in Czechia. He signed a one-year contract, scoring 16 goals and 56 points in his last season in the NHL. In 1,032 professional games against the Bruins, he had 231 goals and 786 points.
