Toby Samuel: Tennis player aiming for Grand Slam after ranking jump

Samuel, who hails from Winchester and trains at the University of Bath, has won four trophies on the Challenger Tour since November, including back-to-back titles in Greece this month.
He attributes his good form to the work he put in during training and enjoyed an injury-free period where everything started to click together.
He missed most of the 2024 season due to a bone bruise, and it wasn’t until midway through 2025 that he felt healthy and recovered.
Samuel said: “The last half year has been going well, winning a lot of games, it’s a good feeling and I’m just trying to keep the momentum going one game a week, not getting too ahead of myself and focus on each week.”
Samuel’s next goal is to enter the main draw of a Grand Slam – he participated in the doubles competition at Wimbledon in 2023 and entered the top 32, but has never participated in a singles competition.
“That’s my next big goal,” Samuel said.
“It’s crazy that I can even say I’m hitting a major. You watch it on TV as a kid and you’re like, ‘Maybe one day I can be there,’ but you don’t actually believe it – but now it feels great to actually do it.”
