The Canadian team’s welcome was as warm as the weather. Just 49 seconds into the game, the Stars fell behind 1-0. Jake Sanderson sent a cross-ice pass in the offensive zone to Batherson, who headed the puck over Oettinger’s shoulder from the left faceoff dot.

Jansen doubled the Senators’ lead just over eight minutes later. The Stars’ defense collapsed, allowing three Senators to drive to the net, and Jansen fired a wrist shot from the top of the crease past Oettinger’s glove.

The Stars got a goal back at 16 minutes and 22 seconds of midfield, when Rantanen broke through and shot a wrist shot from under Ullmark’s right pad into the net. As soon as the game started, Rantanen caused a turnover on his own blue line. Robertson passed the loose puck to Rantanen, who had already broken through the defender.

Eight minutes into the third quarter, the Stars once again got hot on a Robertson catch to tie the game. Rantanen escaped pressure at the Ottawa blue line and found Robertson alone up the middle.

Hintz completed the Stars’ comeback at 3:04 of overtime, leaving the scene in front of Ullmark in chaos. Miro Heiskanen was intercepted twice by Shane Pinto, Robertson was stoned once by Ullmark, and Hintz eventually scored as the Stars won 3-2.

The Stars outshot the Senators 34-29 and went 1-for-3 on the power play. The Senators went 0 for 2 with their personnel advantage.
