This 7.5ºPINGG440 driver is built for tourism professionals. But can it serve you?

Earlier this week, Ping released a limited edition of its G440 LST 7.5º driver, and there are rumors that several Tour players will compete in 2025. The club’s tinkerers, addicts and players are all excited about the release, but can any of us use it?
G440 V G430
The biggest benefit of the G440 lineup over the G430 is that the G440 model is easier to launch – not necessarily higher itself, but easier. This is great for weekend golfers who need help serving, but elite players are still more attractive to the G430’s penetration flight. On tour, the G430 LST is dominated by the 10.5º head, so these players are perfect for the 9ºG440LST. For several 9º LST players, no simple switch is available. That is, until the 7.5º head is coming.
Ping Tour Rep Adam Harding also told me that Ping is more weight on the rear of the G440 driver than the G430. The G430 may weigh 19 or 21 grams, but the G440 players use 29-, 32 or even 35 grams of weight in the back of the LST head. Each gram of weight you increase the head MOI by 1% after you increase the G440 model. So, in theory, some top players might play LST drivers whose MOI numbers encroach on the biggest head areas. They do this while keeping the rotation and launching profiles low by going into the lower Lofted option.
If you ask, this sounds like the ideal setting.

Harding also said that during the test, ping saw the ball speed increase with the weight of the rear port. The specific tour nuggets we all want to test are hitting the driver with a lower loft, not your “standard” but the back weighs 32 grams. Maybe it’s the difference.
The design of the G440 series seems to be a perfect storm, combining more forgiveness, speed and launch even at the highest level of the game. The club is not only suitable for tour players.
I can actually recommend the 7.5º header
The fitter will confirm that many weekends of upgrading from the G430 to the G440 are able to reduce the loft while maintaining proper launch conditions, which helps increase the ball speed and Improve control. More ball speed and control through the same launch window that the player is used to? This is the secret to success.
Another thing to remember here is that although the Ping G440 LST is marked as a “low rotation technology” header, it is definitely not the lowest on the market. Once you spin too low, you will lose control seriously. LST has more room for error than other drivers on the market, some of which are due to Espinistency face Design. LST has always been stable. The rotation rate on G440 series ball speed and eccentric hit rate may be the North Star of the driver market. Because the head does not start with a low spin, it allows the player to miss the chance to lower the spin without entering the terrible realm.

The G440 series is easy to start due to the new design of the head and the idea of adding weight to the back of the head. I would still say that players need to have a considerable amount of speed to unlock the 7.5º head potential, but it certainly works for players who can move it. I got one of the 7.5º heads early and got a friend of mine borrowed on the Clubhead-Speed Mark at 120 mph. He hit the ball at a height (even if not all day) and my peak height was about 115 feet. I can’t imagine how high that ball would be put on the 9º head all day, and that’s just the stock weight of the 7.5º model.

I can also see this driver helping the player spin wildly. The lower loft itself will help reduce a lot of spins, and being able to manage launches at higher spin levels will greatly help players who may be lost with other options. Harding says you can still promote forgiveness (and increase speed) with a lot of back weight.
However, not everyone should run out and buy the 7.5ºG440LST. Please, do not do that. On the same day, I took my partner out for my test and I tried to hit a few balls. The progress is not going well. I usually hit a 10.5º head, or a 9º head, which weighs a lot, and I don’t know if my ball is above about 75 feet. It’s fast, it runs forever, and it’s really straight, but for someone like me, the club head speed is about 112 mph with a ball speed of 165 mph.
Fairway Jockey is available for custom versions of 7.5º heads with limited stock, so if you think the 7.5º option might be the right head for you, I’ll jump off the chance. Pings are usually not messed up with their limited equipment. When it disappears, until we get a new generation of G-series, it probably won’t come back.
PING G440 LST custom driver
The G440 Driver Family (Max, LST, SFT) is optimized with multiple advancements to deliver higher ball speeds, including Ping’s deepest CG and shallower, thinner faces to date, while continuing to ensure the game-changing forgiveness that Ping drivers expect. The G440 LST (Low Scroll) design appeals to players with faster swing speeds, offering lower rotation speeds in the 9° and 10.5° lofts, and has three positions rear weight. A highly tolerant, lighter head weight can make the back weight heavier. Faster faces are shallower and thinner, and the face increases the ball speed to increase distance, and a higher launch. The sound design is new shaping, the carbon crown and inner ribs will create a soft impact experience. Freestyle design saves weight to lower CG and increases forgiveness. Allow more heel flexion to stabilize the face.
