What’s in his Bermuda Championship bag

Adam Schenk weathered a blustery week at Bermuda’s Port Royal Golf Course to win the Butterfield Bermuda Championship for his first victory on the PGA Tour.
On Sunday, facing the shortest course on the PGA Tour and wind gusts exceeding 40 mph, Schenck held on with a unique sandbag setup (no fairway woods).
In fact, his pack this week demonstrates just how expert a gearhead can be.
Let’s start with his eight-year-old Ping G400 rider. The G400 is one that many Ping pros and non-working professionals have been using for years. Schenk is one of the few pros still playing the game, but Bernhard Langer is another famous user. He’s been using the newer G430 Max at times this season, but the old faithful G400 got the call this week.

That’s another story. While Schenck isn’t someone who often tries out new equipment, he is one of the most notorious equipment switchers on the PGA Tour.
A prime example this week was his irons. This year, he used a full set of Ping i210s at times. But this week, he only used those irons in the 2-5 irons and finished his round with the 6-iron in the Mizuno MP-18 SC. These irons were released in 2018 and 2017 respectively.
Schenk’s Odyssey Tri-Hot Rossie, which may also be the oldest putter to win on the PGA Tour this season, was released in 2001 and was the first model to bear the “Tri-Hot” name. Just three weeks ago, Odyssey added another putter to the lineup, the S2S Tri-Hot.
Speaking of golf balls, you might guess that Schenk was one of the last owners of the 2017 Titleist Pro V1. Brian Harman is another famous user of the ball.
In fact, the only piece of equipment Schenck released this decade was a set of Vokey SM10 wedges.

PING G440 Max custom driver
The G440 driver line (MAX, LST, SFT) is optimized to deliver more ball speeds through several advancements, including the deepest center of gravity ever in a PING driver and a shallower, thinner face, while continuing to ensure the game-changing forgiveness expected from PING drivers. The G440 MAX is the most forgiving model and will fit most golfers; available in 9°, 10.5° and 12° angles and has a three-position adjustable back weight. Highly forgiving, lighter head weight allows for heavier back weight. Faster Face A shallow, thin clubface increases ball speed for more distance and higher launch. Sound Design New styling, carbon crown and internal ribs deliver a soft impact experience. The freestyle hosel design reduces weight, lowers the center of gravity and increases forgiveness. Allows more heelface flex to maintain consistent ball speed across the clubface.

wedge: Titleist Vokey SM10 (52-12F, 56-10S, 60-10S)
Shaft: True Temper Dynamic Gold Tour Issue S400 (56, 60)
Titleist Vokey SM10 Raw Custom Wedges
For every shot, every lie, and every course, there’s a break-in for your swing. Finding the right grind for your swing and playing conditions will give you the best turf interaction, contact and hitting performance. Master craftsman Bob Vokey has spent decades carefully crafting, developing and refining his tour-proven grinds to suit players of every level. Anyone can build a wedge, but it takes a master to turn a high-performance technology into a tool of creative control. Bob’s six tour-proven grinds are designed to deliver maximum creativity, versatility and consistency, all carefully developed through years of working with the world’s best players. Progressive Center of Gravity The SM9 features a progressive center of gravity (CG) throughout the loft to optimize ball flight, accuracy and forgiveness. The Vokey R&D team used a tapered topline and different socket lengths to increase the height of the center of gravity at higher lofts, resulting in a lower, more controlled flight. The center of gravity is also located in front of the clubface, resulting in increased moment of inertia, superior feel, and a clubface that just wants to stay upright at impact. Rotary Milled Grooves The SM9’s patented rotary milled grooves are engineered with a new cutting process to maximize rotation and durability. The process begins with cutting the surface completely flat with a high-speed saw. Each groove is then cut individually depending on the loft and finish; low angles (46°-54°) are designed with narrower, deeper grooves, while higher angles (56°-62°) are designed with wider, shallower grooves. Micro-grooves are individually cut between grooves to maximize spin on some shots. A proprietary heat treatment is used in the impact area to double the durability of the grooves without affecting feel, making them the most durable grooves in golf. The process is not complete until every Vokey wedge has been 100% inspected for the highest quality and performance.

Putter: Odyssey Three Hot Rossi
Odyssey Tri-Hot Square 2 Square Rossie Custom Putter
We’ve got zero torque going forward. Odyssey’s new S2S TRI-HOT putter series is a revolution in the “zero torque” category. By using a multi-material construction, we are able to move the center of gravity of these putters far enough forward to allow the shaft to enter the clubhead on the top line, eliminating the need for a shaft lean, thus eliminating one of the biggest barriers to entry for this style of putter. Forward CG and Hosel Position By moving the CG forward, we are able to position the hosel locating pin on the top line, closer to the face than a typical “zero torque” putter, resulting in a more natural, intuitive and comfortable setup position. MULTI-MATERIAL CONSTRUCTION By strategically using aluminum, steel and over 140 grams of tungsten, we’ve been able to design a “zero torque” putter that places more than 80% of its weight below the top line and allows us to have a forward center of gravity and socket position. New FRD Grooves This new forward roll design has deeper, more aggressive grooves. It features a 19° slope which, combined with the dual-layer design, improves the forward roll of the face.
