The club plays a role in Justin Thomas's RBC legacy

Justin Thomas is back in the winner's circle, guys! After nearly three years of playing without the PGA Tour, JT abandoned the retro show on the 2025 RBC legacy and closed it with a playoff putting bomb.
When his game was in the game this week, a gear from earlier this season played a key role in his victory: the driver. So, what has changed and why?
His former gamers were Titleist TSR3, a lower spin head with a higher center of gravity, usually matching high speed and higher spin players. JT was quoted as “feeling great” and was a great producer when he rinsed.
Unfortunately, that was the harvest and he had to rinse it for the best results. TSR3 may be a little bit unpleasant to the eccentric hit single, thus causing JT's drive to take some sightseeing adventures, usually a destination where he has no interest in moving forward.

Enter GT2
The Stitist GT2 driver paired it with the Mitsubishi Diamana prototype shaft, where he landed. The setup is designed to provide higher launches and improved ball speeds to solve his previous challenges with driving accuracy. JT said his personal goal is to reach 60% of the fairways in the 2025 season, a milestone that has not yet been achieved in his career.
Judging from his RBC numbers, he is moving in this direction.

- Driving accuracy: 64% (up from last season's average of 52%)

- Average distance: 303 yards (with the new foot Joy Hyperflex shoes he helped design, it looks like he is gaining more ground strength through impact)
In short: his driving stats are no longer a weak link, and the GT2 gives him something TSR3 can never trust.
Thomas had tested GT2 and TSR3 to replace GT3 before switching. After some testing, he found that the GT3 didn't give him enough height or blank to get the error. However, the GT2 gave him the kind of picturesque high-fire fade, and he prefers to watch the tee. Suddenly, it was like the fairways began to look wider.
Differences between GT2 and GT3 drivers
- GT2: Lower spin, higher emission, higher MOI and more forgiveness. It was built for radical drivers who needed help keeping it in short grass. JT is perfect for this mold – he has a lot of speed and loves to let it tear, but historically his hit in deviation requires more forgiveness.
- GT3: More compact head shape, more feasible, forward center of gravity and adjustable weight. Produce a lower start, with a lower rotation profile, and introduces to better ball shooters who like to see a slight fade out biased start direction.

Thomas not only won the legacy of Royal Bank of Canada, but also sent a message. The numbers didn't lie, JT figured out his driver, which shows. The shift to the Titleist GT2 is not only a gear tuning, but an upgrade. Now, he fired high fades, split fairways and swings like he knew he was going.
If he continues to do that, it won’t be the only win we’ve seen this season. The third may be coming in 2025.
