game review
The Canucks got their celebration started early, with Hronek going coast-to-coast, delaying it before being intercepted by Wolfe for his second of the season. The Flames responded a little more than six minutes later when Frost converted a pass from Lankinen’s Rasmus Andersen for his fifth. Zarri scored his first goal since the opener against the Edmonton Oilers 37 seconds later to give the Flames the lead. He was the beneficiary of a lucky bounce, with the puck flying past Aatu Raty and Lankinen before coming loose in the crease, allowing Zary to pounce for his second goal of the season.
At 10 minutes and 37 seconds of the second quarter, the Flames extended their lead to 3-1 with an accidental rebound. Barr threw the puck toward the net, but Canucks rookie Tom Wilander’s skate hit the puck while jockeying for position with Joel Farabee.
The Flames then extended their advantage to three at 16:31 when Sharangovich used his deft hand-eye coordination to knock a puck out of the air and extend it to three after Lankinen failed to cleanly catch Anderson’s one-timer.
The two teams exchanged goals in the third quarter. Coleman extended the Flames’ lead to 5-1 shorthanded, then Hughes responded with equal force, sprinting solo up the ice and backhanding the puck past Wolfe after making the initial save. The Canucks tried to comeback with an empty net, but were unable to do anything. In the end, the Flames won 5-2.
The Canucks outshot the Flames 30-21 and went 1-for-4 on the power play. The Flames took advantage of the personnel advantage and went 0-for-4 from the field.
