The Cavaliers have “interest” in trading Darius Garland to Orlando

According to NBA insider Jake Fischer, the Cleveland Cavaliers reportedly said the Cleveland Cavaliers were “not very interested” in North’s season, which traded Darius Garland to the Orlando Garland.

“Today, all the noise from Darius Garland in Cleveland, we are reliably told us that the Cavaliers and Magic have no substantial conversations about the Garland deal…and Cleveland has little interest in helping Orlando’s place in the Eastern Conference.”

The Knight can swap Darius Garland to Jalen Suggs

A report by Cleveland.com last month showed potential trade involving Jalen Suggs from Garland and Orlando. ESPN’s Brian Windhorst recently explained why he thought such a deal was unlikely to happen.

“That can’t be trade. Darius Garland is an all-star; Jalen Suggs is not. So, if I were a Cavalier, I had to take into account other aspects of that trade.”

“If you said to me, ‘Are Jalen Suggs the player that the Cavaliers should be interested in?” I would say, “Yes,” because Jalen Suggs comes from people like Jrue Holiday and Alex Caruso. ”

Knights go deep into luxury tax

Financial complications will also stop the garlands – trade.

“[Suggs] A big contract is about to begin…you can trade with each other until after July 1, and then arrive on July 1, [the Cavaliers’] Located next to the second. ” added Windhorst.

Donovan Mitchell and Evan Mobley’s De’andre Hunter trade and expansion have brought Cleveland into luxury taxes and two-piece aprons.

The cavalry tax rate reached $30 million, and the second apron was $13 million. They will pay the estimated $57 million bill, the biggest tax penalty in franchise history.

Cleveland cannot aggregate contracts, using more than 100% of the traded players, sending cash or signing waivers, with a fixed salary of $14.1 million or more.

Magic has become one of Cleveland’s competitors

Another reason the Cavaliers refused to trade was that the Magic have become one of Cleveland’s biggest rivals in the Eastern Conference after two teams played seven games in the first round of the 2024 NBA playoffs.

Other teams may become trade candidates for Garland this summer. If not, Cleveland may decide to retain its All-Star starting point guard.

Garland has three years left with contracts, adding two years and $128.4 million starting on July 8.

According to ESPN’s Bobby Marks, the first or second apron is triggered next season even if the Cavaliers violate one of the restrictions before June 30.
